Sighting Details

My father, my cousin, and I were outside a relatives' home and for no apparent reason, I had looked overheard possibly to observe a bird or something that caught my eye.I saw a slow moving boomerang shaped object moving North to South at an estimated speed of 30 to 40 mph soemwhere at 5k to 6k altitude. I would estimate the wing span to be over one hundred feet. It stopped and turned 180 degrees and left back in the direction it came from. It was very large, metallic ( the sun glinted off the surface), and it had no apparent propulsion system. No noise, no lights,no props, no baloons attached. We all saw it but had no idea what it was. I was a teenager at the time and after all these years I am still deeply curious as to what could do that. I am retired Air Force with over 20 years of aircraft maintenance under my belt. Airplanes don't do what I saw that boomerang/wing do. I realize memory can lose its' clarity over time, but this has never left me.
